Overview

Iridium Communications agreed to acquire the remaining 61% of equity interests in Aireon LLC, operator of a space-based ADS-B air traffic surveillance system, for about $366.7 million, and to assume about $155 million of Aireon's debt. Payment is 50% at closing and 50% on the one-year anniversary.

Deal rationale

The acquisition unifies Aireon's space-based surveillance with Iridium's satellite network to build a foundational platform for global aviation safety and to grow the aviation data services business.
